Francesca Brown meets with a phenomenal group of women in New York

In partnership with iFundWomen and adidas, several women from around the world were called upon to showcase the incredible work they do in the world of sport.

Francesca had the honour of meeting tennis legend, and feminist icon Billie Jean King whilst in NYC, where they spoke about the power of sport, the importance of grassroots organisations in helping to develop young women into leaders and their love of breaking down barriers.

“To meet Billie was just incredible!” says Francesca. “And to be able to come back home and share that journey with our young people was really special.

Sitting down with one of history’s greatest ever athletes, and someone who has done so much to empower women, especially in sport, was a quite unbelievable. To now think she knows about the work we do in Newham…we’ve just put Newham on the map!”

The campaign was put together to promote the work of grassroots organisations working hard to support girls and young women in their local communities.

Along with the campaign, a crowdfunding platform is soon to be announced in partnership with iFundWomen to help the organisations reach and support more female athletes in their chosen sport(s).

“Any money raised will be put into our mentoring programme. A programme designed alongside our participants to cover areas and topics that mean something to them. We talk about mental health, how to live healthy lives and form positive relationships, as well as the world of work. G4G is more than just a football development programme. Football is our vehicle for change, it’s our ‘way in’ when helping girls and young women be the best possible versions of themselves.”
