Arsenal and England Striker Danielle Carter Announced as Goals4Girls Ambassador

Here at G4G, we are proud and thrilled to have recently announced Danielle Carter as our Goals4Girls Ambassador. To have such an inspirational icon engaged in our mission is something that our girls and young women are guaranteed to benefit from.

Danielle was delighted to be a part of the launch, and her involvement is recognised as a huge boost for the organisation. Danielle described her decision regarding the opportunity to influence and inspire our girls from the same community and area that she herself is from as a “no-brainer”. She also spoke of how she can provide them with a positive outlook on life.

Goals4Girls Founder and CEO Francesca Brown says – “Launching Danielle as our ambassador marks an exciting new chapter in our journey. From when we first met with Danielle, it was clear that our mission resonated with her, and that she wanted to play an active part in supporting our work. Five years since we started our first programmes in London, it’s a huge honour for us to be working with such an impactful sporting role model – Danielle’s involvement is a huge boost to our efforts to combat the issue of underachievement in school, under representation and barriers in sport, for students from working class backgrounds and the BAME Community.”

Going forward, Danielle is tasked with helping to raise the profile of Goals4Girls in London. We want to see more women getting involved in sport at all levels, from the field of play to the boardroom, so to welcome Danielle to our female-lead organisation is not only a great honour, but also a positive step in the right direction, supporting our girls, and driving them to break down barriers. Inspiring the next generation of athletes is something that we at Goals4Girls work to do, and now, Danielle is playing an instrumental role in doing just that.

Danielle Carter – Women’s Player of the Year & an Inspiration

Danielle Carter worked her way through the ranks at Leyton Orient Girls Centre of Excellence, before then moving to Arsenal FC whilst still at school in Romford. Danielle has been one of Arsenal’s most effective attackers. The English striker has twice been nominated for the “Women’s Player of the Year Award” at the London Football Awards and has netted an incredible two hat tricks in two consecutive games for her country. Her actions off the pitch are equally as impressive: when Danielle noticed that some of the students on our programme were in need of boots, she provided them instinctively. This is just an example of one of Danielle’s many admirable traits that make her the incredible sporting role model that she is.

Understandably, Danielle has had an immediate impact on the girls and young women at G4G. Participating in an inspirational talk during her launch at Langdon Academy to kick start her Goals4Girls journey, she moved the entire room and engaged with up to 60 female students, learning that as the likes of Arsenal legend Rachel Yankey was a role model for herself, she is now for the girls. Our girls were so excited to meet their idol; they were all visibly emotional and taking photos throughout. Since her introduction, we have seen members of G4G go on to play for the likes of West Ham United and Crystal Palace, proving just what an inspirational impact Danielle Carter has had on our ambitious young women. If she sees, she believes. And if she believes, she breaks down barriers.

Our Aim for Progression in Women’s Sport

Despite some positive developments across a handful of sports, the statistics remain shocking in part, perhaps most notably that Women’s sport still only accounts for a pitiful 0.4% of the commercial investment going into all sports and for just 7% of total sports coverage in the media. As shameful as the facts are, Goals4Girls are excited with the role we have to play, not only combatting the issue of under representation and barriers in sport, but also underachievement in school, and providing the necessary support for girls from less privileged backgrounds and the BAME community.
We are ambitious doers, we have a vision, and we are working to make it a reality!
